Abstract

The aim of the study is to reveal the effect of Reflections of Science on Nature Project which is supported by TÜBİTAK and in which non-classroom activities are created so that students take place actively different science and nature activities on students’ science process skills. The acquisition of science process skills is important in terms of students create scientific knowledge and they learn by living nature of science. The implementation of the project was 3 semester as the period of 5 days, totally 15 days. 49 students chosen randomly from 6th and 7th grade from different socioeconomic levels in İzmir participated in project. During the project 38 activities performed that enable students to participate actively and question and think. In the study performed according to pre-test post-test model without control group in order to identify students’ scientific process skills scientific process skill scale including 25 multiple choice that is developed by another researcher and whose reliability is 0,81 was used. Since 6 person who participated pre-tests didn’t participate post-tests and there were 2 scales that were not appropriate for evaluation 40 scale answered by students were used in evaluating. SPSS packet program was used to analyze data. In comparisons the depended group t test was used. It was seen that there was a significant increase in students’ scientific process skills scores after the project of reflections of science on nature, t (39)=7,61, p<0,05. While students scientific process skills average was 13,00 before the application after the application of project this average increased 16,97. The results of research showed that applications of reflections of science on nature project were effective in increasing students’ scientific process skills. It is thought that the study is lead to new studies which will survey different students’ skills in non-classroom environment.
