Publication Ethics and Policy

Publication Ethics

Journal of Research in Education and Teaching (JRET) takes issues of plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate publication, slicing, citation manipulation, and unethical research practices seriously. Manuscripts found to violate ethical standards will be directly rejected.

The journal agrees to act in accordance with the journal's open access policy, COPE criteria (Committee on Publication Ethics, COPE-Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors).

Ethical Responsibilities of the Editor(s)

  1. The Editor(s) are responsible for managing the double-blind peer-review process of all manuscripts submitted to the journal, including assigning reviewers, coordinating second and subsequent rounds of evaluation when necessary, and ensuring that all editorial decisions are made in accordance with the journal’s established ethical policies and procedures.
  2. The Editor(s) have a duty to identify and address unethical or unscientific practices, including but not limited to plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, and data misappropriation. When deemed necessary, the Editor(s) may request supporting evidence from the author(s), such as raw data files, analytical outputs, images, or audiovisual materials, to verify the integrity of the research.
  3. The Editor(s) are responsible for maintaining accurate and secure records related to manuscript evaluation, including similarity (plagiarism) reports, copyright transfer agreements, ethics committee approval documents, and all formal correspondence with the author(s).
  4. The Editor(s) are committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in all editorial practices. In cases involving ethical concerns, disputes, or complaints related to the journal, the Editor(s) shall conduct appropriate investigations and publicly disclose relevant information and outcomes on the journal’s official website when necessary.
  5. The Editor(s) have the responsibility to ensure that the peer-review process is conducted in a professional and respectful manner. If reviewer reports contain aggressive, offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate language, the Editor(s) shall intervene, request revisions to the review, and remind reviewers to provide feedback that is objective, constructive, respectful, and consistent with academic standards.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Manuscripts assigned for review are evaluated under a double-blind peer-review system. Reviewers do not attempt to identify or contact the author(s) directly and do preserve the confidentiality of the review process at all times.
  2. Reviewers are expected to conduct their evaluations objectively, fairly, and in accordance with the principles of scientific integrity, ethical responsibility, and confidentiality.
  3. Reviewer reports should be written in a professional, respectful, and scholarly tone. Evaluations do avoid aggressive, derogatory, offensive, or condescending language and aim to provide constructive, clear, and motivating feedback to assist author(s) in improving their manuscripts.
  4. Reviewers have an ethical obligation to inform the Editor(s) promptly if they identify potential ethical or scientific misconduct, including plagiarism, redundant publication, data fabrication or falsification, or other forms of unethical research practice.
  5. Reviewers who accept an invitation to review a manuscript undertake to complete their evaluation within the specified timeframe. Reviewers who are unable to meet the deadline may request an extension or decline the review, thereby allowing the Editor(s) to assign an alternative reviewer in a timely manner.

Ethical Responsibilities of Author(s)

  1. By signing the Copyright Transfer Form, the author(s) acknowledge and declare full responsibility for the content of the manuscript. This includes the responsibility for the scientific accuracy, ethical integrity, and legal compliance of the research and its publication.
  2. Through submission of the manuscript and Copyright Transfer Form, the author(s) confirm that the work is original, has not been previously published in any form, and is not under consideration for publication by another journal/scientific publication concurrently.
  3. Author(s) are required to prepare, present, and cite their work in accordance with accepted principles of scientific research, academic integrity, and ethical publication practices.
  4. Author(s) must refrain from engaging in unethical or unscientific practices, including but not limited to plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, data manipulation, and unauthorized use of data or materials.
  5. When requested by the Editor(s), author(s) are obligated to provide appropriate documentation or evidence – such as raw data sets, analytical files, images, or experimental recordings – to support the validity and reliability of the reported findings.
